This is the music video me and three others from my class made to the song 'Kinky Boots' by Patrick MacNee and Honor Blackman, which was given to us by our AS media studies teacher.
We didn't have a lot of time to plan, film and edit our video especially because it was our first music video produced there are a lot of aspects which could be improved.
Location
We filmed the majority of our footage at our college where we asked other students to participate, we thought this would be a good idea as we would be able to get a range of people involved which fits with the lyrics.
A bad point about filming at our college would be that we couldn't get a range of locations, and the places we did film in didn't look very professional or planned out. When I'm filming for my final music video I will make sure I know where I am filming and that it is suitable for my song.
Quality
When filming this video we used cameras provided by our college, Although they were simple and easy to use for our first video they weren't of good quality which is something I think I will need for my final video. Because of this I am going to purchase a high quality camera which films in HD which will make my footage clearer and better to use for a music video.
Editing
Having never edited a video before I was very confused when it came to editing our footage for this video. We didn't use any filters or visual effects other than cutting the footage to show the parts we liked and also speeding up some parts to fit with the pace of the music. For my final music video I want to be able to add a range of different filters and possibly layer different clips over one another to give it a more dream like and soft feel. I feel that I didn't learn a lot from editing this video other than the basics which means I would like to experiment with other clips to be able to widen my knowledge of the editing software.
We tried to film a range of different camera shots as possible in different angles as this was part of our brief, we did a close up of our main model (Jaydee) whilst she was lip syncing, I think this was a good choice of shot as it drew attention to what she was saying as we filmed it in front of a white background making the model and her singing the main focus point, however I think we could've filmed more lip syncing to make it seem more like a music video instead of filming things which weren't relevant to the song.
What I'll take from this project
There are many things which I have learnt from completing this music video project. One being the importance of planning, I need to make sure I write an accurate schedule of all the things I need to complete before a certain date. I will also plan what shows I will take before I go to film which is something we didn't do with this project leading to us filming random things which weren't relevant. I also know that now I will need to experiment with the editing software in order to be able to complete my music video in the way I want to.
I will also take the importance of camera quality, with this film camera we couldn't focus or zoom in without the footage being ruined, I have learnt from this and will make sure I use a higher quality camera - hopefully a Canon 600d
